Wilder West Bristol
Let’s put nature into recovery here in West Bristol!
We all know the scale of the challenge. We’ve lost 97% of our wildflower meadows since the 1930s, and the same proportion of hedgehogs over the past seventy years. Up to 75% of our global insect populations over the last fifty. Bristol has lost 96% of its population of common songbirds such as swifts and swallows over the last thirty.
But! Private gardens cover more land in Britain than all our nature reserves combined. And we as individuals can make a huge difference. Even if you only have a balcony or windowbox, you can take action.
So join our Wilder West Bristol project and:
Let’s wild this place up! And if you'd like to help get the word out, please print off our flyer below and put it up on your local noticeboard.

So join our Wilder West Bristol project and:
- find out how to wild up your garden, from planting flowers for pollinating insects to installing a hedgehog hotel;
- add your wildlife-supporting actions to our interactive map and see what our area already has (in fact, wherever you are in Bristol, please feel free to add to it!);
- see what’s happening at York Place near Clifton Village, where the garden behind the railings is open to the public and in the process of being turned wild (you can follow the process on Twitter without registering);
- get inspired by our videos on local wild gardens;
- spread the word on social media about what you’re doing to help wildlife (please use #WilderClifton and #CliftonClimateAction);
- if you’ve seen a hedgehog, add it to the Big Hedgehog Map;
- increase your impact by telling your friends and neighbours about Wilder West Bristol and getting them to join in.
