Travel resources

There are some great resources available to Bristol businesses for reducing  travel emissions.

The Energy Savings Trust offers a free review of your fleet vehicles, which could save you up to 250 tonnes of carbon dioxide (and £300,000!) and every year. There’s an initial meeting to discuss your needs and you receive an in-depth report with recommendations.

The West of England Combined Authority (WECA) have a new scheme offering Green Business Grants to SMEs. These are 40% cashback grants of £1,000-£15,000 per business. They’re aimed at improving energy efficiency in general, but you can buy electric vehicles with them if you can demonstrate a carbon saving. WECA offer a free energy survey to support your application.

Travelwest offer 50% match-funding for sustainable travel initiatives such as increased cycle parking, electric pool bikes, and provision of car-sharing bays in staff car parks. They also offer Small Grants of up to £250 to fund lower-cost initiatives such as cycle breakfasts or resources to encourage people to walk.

Travelwest can also provide a free travel roadshow, a Dr Bike servicing session, and free bike-maintenance sessions for your employees as part of their travel support for businesses.

Travelwest offer businesses a 3–6 month loan of electric pool bikes, with maintenance arranged by Travelwest. They say they’ve had ‘brilliant feedback’ about the scheme and that many of the businesses and some employees purchase their own e-bike afterwards. One of the bikes has a trailer fitted so that you can trial it for deliveries before buying a cargo-bike or trailer of your own. Contact travelwestbusiness@bristol.gov.uk.

If your business receives multiple deliveries, you could ask logistics providers about freight consolidation to reduce the number of deliveries.

If you need to use a car for your business, business membership of a car club would let you use electric vehicles without having to buy one for your company.
