Switch banks
We don’t tend to think about what our banks do with our money, but they invest it. And most are investing it in fossil fuels, from UK fracking sites to coal mines. Their investment projects include the enormous coal tar sands pipeline in Canada – a disaster for the planet and for the indigenous people whose land it crosses.
All banks should disinvest from fossil fuels but the biggest offenders are HSBC and Barclays, with enormous investments of over $25 billion between them.
Search online to see how your bank is currently invested in fossil fuels and if they are, consider switching and write to tell them about it. Triodos and the Coop Bank don’t invest in fossil fuels – and Triodos invests in renewables.
